Start with what people already have
The records, photos, accounts, and stories that make up a life are often scattered. Good tools help people find and organize them without taking ownership away.
About LifeScribe
LifeScribe was created by Mark Krynsky, a digital legacy advocate who wanted to create tools for people to run and own their own data without having to rely on cloud services.
Mark has worked in digital technology for many years and has written about personal digital data since 2007 on how it can help people share, improve, and preserve their lives.
That work led to Digital Legacy Management, a resource site created to help people identify, organize, protect, and preserve their personal data for current and future generations.
LifeScribe turns that advocacy into free, open-source desktop tools. They are made to help people keep their memories, records, photos, and plans on their own machines, where they can decide how they are protected and shared with family.
The project has one simple purpose behind each app: make it easier for more people to share their memories and prepare important information before it becomes urgent.
The commitment
The records, photos, accounts, and stories that make up a life are often scattered. Good tools help people find and organize them without taking ownership away.
LifeScribe is built around local-first, private tools so people can decide where their information lives and when it is shared.
Digital legacy planning should not be limited to people with specialist knowledge or expensive services. The goal is practical help for everyone.
